Dr Michael Hurrell is a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with Dentistry and Medicine degrees, a PhD and a post-specialty fellowship in head and neck cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction.

Dr Hurrell received his Dentistry degree with Class 1 honour’s at the University of Queensland in 2008. Following two years of full-time general dental practice in the Northern Territory, he returned to the University of Queensland to complete both a Medicine degree, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy degree in facial trauma surgery. During this time, in addition to his medical training, he undertook an additional six years of part-time general dental practice.

Dr Hurrell moved to Western Australia upon selection to the national Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training Program, a training centre recognised for its high volume of severe facial trauma, orthognathic surgery and dental implantology. After receiving his specialist qualifications, Dr Hurrell was then selected to undertake an additional 18-month fellowship in head and neck cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction at the world-renowned Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney.

Together with his clinical work, Dr Hurrell has an ongoing interest in scientific research, and supervises trainee surgeons, medical students and dental students.

Dr Hurrell will commence practice on the Gold Coast in August 2022, at the Gold Coast University Hospital, The OMS Clinic and the Gold Coast Private Hospital.

Both Dr Hurrell and his wife, together with their two young children, are very much looking forward to returning to Queensland and settling in this beautiful region.
